In 1962, a group of bicycle racers decided to challenge 14,264-foot Mt. Evans by racing to its summit. Started by just a handful of riders, the race quickly became an annual event celebrated by the hardiest athletes, at a time when bicycle racing was considered an oddity at best.
This year's Bob Cook Memorial Mt. Evans Hill Climb is Saturday, July 24th. If you would like to volunteer to help us out this year: Register Here
Hello and thank you to everyone who has offered to assist with the race this year! Some things to note about this years changes:
All volunteers will be fed.
Drivers (caravan and clothing) will be paid for mileage for use of your vehicles from Start to Finish and back to Start.
RACERS: Bring a volunteer and race for free! Contact me with your volunteer information and I'll provide a code for your registration.
After-party is in-town and local restaurants will be providing discounts for our racers (no sandwich or food prep this year!)
There are a number of volunteer assignments to choose from including some new opportunities with the after-party that will take place in town this year. RACE DAY VOLUNTEERS
Greeters: 2 people (6:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.) I would like to have 4 people at the start to assist with any directions, questions, or concerns of the racers. You'll be provided with schedules for clothing vehicles, start times and a list of contacts. Mainly you'll be pointing people to the restrooms!
Packet Pick up at the Race: 6 to 8 people (6:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.) Hopefully the majority of riders will have there materials by now, but for those that couldn't make it to the mid-week locations, we'll have all race numbers, jerseys, t-shirts and information. There is no race day registration.
Clothing Bag Crew and Drivers: 11 people total (6:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.) 1. We're combining some categories clothing to help reduce the number of vehicles going up the mountain. Your job will be to make sure that the right clothes get into the right car. 2. As the vehicles fill and leave, you'll assist in unloading at the top and getting the bags to the racers as they arrive. We'll likely only need 2 to 3 people at the top and can rotate as needed.
Caravan Drivers: 42 (6:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.) There are generally three vehicles needed for every wave (one lead and two follow). The role is not difficult, but does demand careful drivers. You‚ll be provided a detailed instruction sheet and driving from the Start to the Finish. It‚Äö√Ñ√¥s the best seat in the house!
Awards and Celebration: 6 to 10 people (11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.) This years after-party will take place at Citizen‚ Park in downtown Idaho Springs. We'llhave a stage to set up for awards, music (maybe a couple bands!) and beer from Tommyknockers to serve up to our participants of age.
