Fundraising for Breakaway from Cancer
I would like to personally invite you to participate in a fundraising effort coinciding with this year’s race. We have an opportunity to give back this year in a meaningful way: one that is true to the memory of Bob Cook and reflects our commitment to beat cancer. Amgen’s Breakaway from Cancer® initiative aims to increase awareness of the important resources available to people affected by cancer – from prevention through survivorship. Cyclists who register to participate in the 2010 Mt. Evans Hill Climb race are encouraged to raise funds for the four non-profit cancer support organizations that benefit from the Breakaway from Cancer initiative. A Breakaway from Cancer booth will be set up in the festival area at the Mt. Evans Hill Climb after-party in Idaho Springs on July 24, from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., to share information about the free services provided by the Breakaway from Cancer partner organizations: Prevent Cancer Foundation, Cancer Support Community, Patient Advocate Foundation and National Coalition for Cancer Survivorship. I’m not asking for minimum amounts to be raised, or even making it a mandatory effort. Amgen has been very generous in their sponsorship of this year’s event, but more importantly I know that the effects of cancer touch us all. There are incentives for raising the most funds, including autographed jerseys from Lance Armstrong and George Hincapie. You can find out more by registering as a fundraiser now.
Thank you for helping us in this effort. Sincerely, David Newcomer Race Director |

No one should have to fight cancer alone. |
|
In 2005, Amgen created Breakaway from Cancer® as a complementary component to its title sponsorship of the Amgen Tour of California to increase awareness of the important resources available to cancer patients from prevention to education and support to financial assistance and survivorship.
